The Colour of February

I recently did posts on decorating with yellow (because it’s so cheerful) and blue (which was the focus of House Beautiful’s recent issue.) I thought a post about red would be fitting as it is the colour associated with the month of February. As we are in the depths of a cold spell here in Canada (well at least where I am near Toronto), what better way to warm things up than with the colour red.

There are many shades of red from persimmon (orange red) to burgundy (purple red). Red is often seen in dining rooms and kitchens because they say it stimulates appetite, as well as conversation. Red brings life and energy to a room and works well with warm and cool colours. Most of the photos below are of a fresher red and in most cases red was used with a light hand. A little goes a long way – a cushion, a throw, flowers, art, rather than painting all four walls of a room.
