Hello! Is it really Friday already – how did that happen?
If you have been following my blog for awhile, you may recall I pulled out the builder carpet in my daughter’s room and replaced it with hardwood. I did purchase a wool area rug but had to return it as it wreaked havoc on her allergies.
And then I remembered FLOR! I have been a fan of their carpet tiles for awhile. Have you heard of them? The tiles come in a variety of unique patterns and colours that you can configure how you wish and to whatever size you need. Each tile is approx. 20” x 20” and is made of recycled fibres.
When I spied the Vintage Vibe rug on their site, I knew it would be perfect for M’s room for the foot of her bed.
Vintage Vibe is their take on the Moroccan Beni Ouarain rugs that you are seeing everywhere. There are subtle irregularities in the pattern that make it look time-worn like an authentic Beni would. I also like that it doesn’t have a high pile and isn’t plush so it’s much easier to clean. I LOVE when decor items are functional and stylish.
Speaking of cleaning, if you do get a spill you can just rinse the tile(s) off with water! If the stain is stubborn (I’m thinking something like nail polish), then you can always replace the specific tile. I think that is one of the huge selling features of FLOR.
The grey and cream colours are a perfect counter to the bold floral and pink/coral/red in the room. If I ever change the colour palette (she says she wants blue next), this rug will still work.
Laying the floor tiles was simple. This was a “rug” so it came with a set number of Vintage Vibe squares for the center and a border of the Jitterbug tiles (a zigzag.) My daughter had fun laying out the tiles how she wanted.
The rug stays together with Flordot adhesives that you secure under the rug to each square.
Her allergies have not been affected at all with the rug in her room now for a few weeks. And I like that the low-pile won’t trap dust etc. like a rug with shaggy yarns would.
It’s the perfect size, colour and pattern for the room.
The rug really makes the room feel warm and is more comfortable for sitting on when a bunch of her friends are over. It’s also soft on her feet when she’s doing what she does best!
(All photos except the ones in the collage by Leah Kirin.)
What do you think? Take a look at their site to see the endless possibilities and solutions for any room in your home. They just released a Fall collection and I am loving the Jump Jive and Swing Beat.
Have a happy weekend!
Please note that this post was partially sponsored by FLOR but all of the thoughts and opinions are my own. I truly love this product and even recommend it to clients.

September 8, 2013I have used Flor tiles for two clients so far and for all the reasons you mentioned. The variety of looks from contemporary to traditional makes it easy to find something that works whatever your style. I am actually getting ready to take some Flor samples to a 3rd client. There is a picture of one of my projects posted on Flor’s designer gallery http://www.flor.com/designer-gallery It’s the living room with the gray and white area rug.
