Hello,
{For those of you visiting for the first time, welcome! Thanks for stopping by. I am an Interior Decorator living just outside of Toronto, Canada and I started writing my blog Decor Happy back in 2009. I recently moved into a much smaller home which I am transforming one space at a time.}
Welcome to week 3 of the One Room Challenge! I am transforming my home office for this round and there are just over two weeks left until the photographer arrives to shoot it. For some reason, I thought there was an extra week in there. Oops!
You can see the before photos and inspiration (week 1) and the design plan (week 2) here:
{crickets}
There hasn’t been a whole lot happening this past week and as I mentioned, I won’t have any progress photos to show until the built in is installed in a couple of weeks (fingers crossed) as that is THE major change. As a decorator, I require a built in for storage of files, samples and supplies. So, this ORC is the easiest (though certainly not the least expensive) one that I have worked on to date. Everything is contingent on my cabinetmaker building and installing the built in on time.

Here is the design concept again:
Here’s my to do list:
- drive to the border this weekend (also include a Target run for office accessories) to pick up my office chair that I ordered online from West Elm. I could have had it delivered to my home but that would have taken 10-12 weeks which doesn’t quite work with the ORC timeline. Yes, I suppose I could have ordered it 10-12 weeks ago, but who is that organized?? It took about a week for it to arrive at an address (UPS) at the border. I have never had anything delivered to the border before, so hopefully everything goes smoothly when I go to pick it up. On the other hand, I did have the West Elm ceiling fixture delivered to my home and it is somewhere in transit. Certain lighting can be ordered through the store but again, it takes a lot longer so I decided to order it online. Note that although it may be quicker, it is more expensive to order online as there is duty etc. Again, if I knew I was doing the ORC and had began planning months ago, I could have saved some $. Lesson – plan ahead.
- Order/source art, rug and hardware – see prior post to see what I’m thinking. Hoping this all comes together as time is running out.
- Order the crown moulding.
- My painter is painting the room next week and I’m thinking it will be Benjamin Moore Silver Satin (an off white) if I go with the two toned cabinetry idea. However if I don’t, then I’m thinking of doing a pale, blush pink on the walls and a light grey on the cabinets. I better decide soon as the clock is ticking!
- Electrician is also needed to hang the light fixture and add another outlet.
- Figure out what to do with the gazillion cords – is there a way to streamline this? May need to bring in a professional. I was going to upgrade to an iMac (had been meaning to make the switch from a desktop for years) but I heard that a new one will be introduced this Fall hopefully so I am going to wait. I’m probably one of very few people who don’t have a laptop as I prefer a desktop along with an iPad for client visits.
- Style and accessorize.
- Get the room professionally photographed.
Go check out what the 20 featured designers and my fellow linkers (there were almost 250 last week!) are up to. I for one cannot wait to see some of the reveals. Thank you Linda for organizing the ORC, House Beautiful for being a partner and all of you for following along!

Vanessa
April 21, 2017Yes! Well the six week challenge is really only five weeks to begin with and when you factor in a photographer, it’s 4.5 – if we’re getting technical. We can do this!

April 20, 2017Oh love the idea of blush walls but either route will be gorgeous! So interesting learning about border pick-ups, good luck!

April 20, 2017Sounds like you’re making progress! Yeah, it really should be 5 week challenge because you have to get everything finished in 5 week in order to photograph. Hey, at least we’re all in the same boat. I know it will be stunning just like all your projects! XOXO, Sarah
Vanessa
