Benjamin Moore Newburg Green in a beautiful kitchen designed by Benjamin Dhong Interiors
Hello,
{For those of you visiting for the first time, welcome! Thanks for stopping by. I am an Interior Decorator living just outside of Toronto, Canada and I began writing my blog Decor Happy back in 2009. I recently moved into a much smaller home which I am transforming one space at a time.}
Welcome to week 4 of the One Room Challenge! I am transforming my home office for this round and would you believe there are only ten days until my photographer comes to shoot the space. Time has a funny way of sneaking up on you.
You can see the before photos and inspiration (week 1), the design plan (week 2) and progress (week 3) here:
I finally decided on the paint colours for the room. Remember my uncertainty regarding the base cabinets and whether I should paint them a teal/blue green with the uppers off white? I had considered blush pink walls with light grey cabinetry but stuck with my original plan which was two toned cabinetry – teal and white. I have always loved this look.
So many lovely blue/green choices! These are only a few of the ones under consideration – I was considering the darkest ones on these chips. Some of the others were too bright and not fitting with the aesthetic I was after for the office.
I decided to go with Benjamin Moore Newburg Green, HC-158 (middle colour on paint chip on the left) after seeing it again in my sister’s powder room at Easter. I helped her choose the colour ten years ago and it still has major appeal today. In her powder room, you can see it looks more green than blue, however in my light it does look more blue. I wouldn’t say it’s teal but definitely a moody cross between blue and green. The upper cabinets will be Silver Satin, OC-26, the same colour I used in my kitchen for the cabinetry and walls.
(Awww…their dog Claire who is no longer with us.)
The office was cleared out so that my painter could paint the walls my favourite white – Benjamin Moore Gardenia, AF-10. It’s the colour that I have on the entire first floor except the kitchen. It was so nice to get rid of the purple grey from the previous owners which was in every single room in the house. Such a blah colour and it sucked all the light out of my tiny office. Can’t wait to replace that builder light soon.
Ahhh…I can breathe. Note the door and trim from Metrie and the crystal knob from Upper Canada Specialty Hardware. Love! (Door and trim are painted Simply White, Oc-117.)
In the photo above you can see how small the room is – 10′ x 7′. I’m debating whether or not to put the custom shelving unit I designed back in the room on the left wall. You can see it below in my former home office which was a lot larger. I’ll see if I need the storage once the built in is installed. It did come in handy as I would have a tray for each client I was working with at the moment. I have been going through boxes of items I had in my former office to see if I really need to keep things – I can be a bit of a pack rat.
Here is what needs to get done stat:
- Drive to the border to pick up the office chair. Yes, I did mention I was going last weekend and I did go but the UPS store wasn’t open on Sunday – I misread their hours! I still went with a designer friend and we hit up a few Targets and had a really fun day. (See some of my office finds below which I posted on my Instagram story.)
- Hang the light fixture.
- Install the built in.
- Hang art, style and accessorize.
- Figure out what to place in left side of room.
- Get the room professionally photographed.
Go check out what the 20 featured designers and my fellow linkers are up to. I for one cannot wait to see some of the reveals. Thank you Linda for organizing the ORC, House Beautiful for being a partner and all of you for following along!
