Hey there,
Guess what? I’m participating for the eighth time in the One Room Challenge. I only really decided yesterday that I was going to participate. Yes, you read that correctly. While people have been scheming, scheduling and ordering for weeks, I have done nothing. I have too much going on so I didn’t think I would have time to participate in this round. But the ORC is like a drug that somehow pulls you back in even when you thought for sure that you wouldn’t be participating.
Wish me luck as I really don’t know what design direction I’m going in and have not secured any trades or ordered any product! But I’m hopeful that it will all come together in five weeks and if not, it’s not the end of the world, right?
Exactly three years ago (Spring 2015) I renovated my daughter’s bathroom in my former home as one of the featured designers. It was fun and fresh, received a lot of media attention and is still being shared on Instagram three years later. (Fun fact – only one of the wall sconces arrived before the photo shoot so my talented photographer photo shopped the other in. You would be hard pressed to tell which is which. 🙂 )
We moved into this house in the Fall of 2016 and have updated most of the rooms except for my daughter’s bathroom so that’s what I will be tackling again. (I have linked to the three previous ORC’s in this house at the end of the post.)
Currently, it’s pretty basic with cheap finishes. The only thing I did when we moved in was replace the ugly mirror that was there from the previous owners with this simple round one. It will be changed as well as I’m thinking a rectangular one with wall sconces on either side may be better. The vanity will be staying but will be painted and have new hardware. Plus, new counter, sink and faucet. Oh and of course there will be wallpaper…because, wallpaper.
We are keeping the tub and the wall tiles as the 6×6 white tiles aren’t offensive (and the house is only 7 years old) – the grout just needs to be cleaned. I had thought about replacing the floor tiles, tub and wall tiles but couldn’t justify the expense as they are fine – maybe not designerish, but fine.
The plunger is always beside the toilet because clogs can be frequent as this is the most basic builder toilet you can find. It is very low and tiny reminiscent of a kindergarten toilet. 🙂 It, of course will be going.
I replaced all the doors and trim in the house with products from Metrie but I still need to change the baseboards in this bathroom. I thought I was going to change the floor tiles when I moved in but that’s not the case. So, it’s not a total gut renovation – more of an update to banish some of the ugly. 🙂 Now to talk to my client and get scheming!
Update: Changing the tiles and tub may be an option. (fingers crossed)
