Hello friends,
I’m sharing my home office reveal today. For those new here, I’m an Interior Decorator based in Milton, ON Canada.
See my inspiration and before photos on Instagram here and here and my last blog post here to get caught up.
I turned an unused bedroom into an organized and pretty home office. When we first saw the house, my daughter really wanted to have this room as her bedroom because it has a door to a balcony. But I thought it would make the perfect home office. I do miss not having a home office on the first floor but I’m slowly getting used to it.
We renovated our entire home before we moved in which meant replacing the laminate floors, trim, lighting, window coverings, closet doors and door knobs. We painted the walls various shades of white and removed the popcorn ceilings. It’s basically a new house.
The office was then a clean canvas on which to design something functional and beautiful. I’m a firm believer in investing in built in cabinetry rather than having disparate pieces of furniture like a desk and a bookcase, in a space. I designed an L shaped desk with storage above and below on one side.
I’m so in love with it. I have a large surface to work on and storage for client files, product info etc.
The colour of the built in is one of my all time favourite colours, Benjamin Moore Wickham Grey. There is a return air on the wall so I designed open shelves for display and I always love having a corkboard to pin inspiration.
Because of the floor vent, I thought that a pretty leg would be a good solution and I found this one on Etsy. It’s a little different. The paintings were done by my partner Greg’s great uncle in the 1950’s.
Opposite the built in is this beautiful mural from Milton & King. It is the Grandiflora Mural in Sable and it reminds me of the ultra expensive, stunning hand painted Gracie wallpapers.
I love it but I’m questioning what to place it front of it so as not to cover it up. I only have it on one wall and if I place something in front of it, you will hardly see it. For now “Ellie’s chair” is moved up to the office and she is great company even though I have to carry her up and down the stairs. (She fell down the stairs as a pup and is hesitant to do stairs especially if they do not have a runner on them.)
But stay tuned as I may go with my original plan which is to install a floating credenza on the wall and hopefully I won’t ruin the mural!
So that’s it! Thanks for following along. Let me know if you have any questions about the space.
