Hello and welcome to Week 4 of the One Room Challenge where designers and bloggers transform a space in five weeks. This is my ninth time renovating and decorating a space for the ORC and my beautiful sister is my client this time around as we tackle her kitchen. You can see the Befores, the design concept and progress so far in these previous posts:
Last week the beautiful black stainless range hood from Zephyr was put in place temporarily and will be taken down this week when the backsplash is installed. Because of the bulkheads and the clearance needed above the range, we had to cut the stack to fit but I still think it looks really beautiful. This is my adorable niece who was home from university this weekend and helped with a few details. This kitchen has been a labour of love for my sister and her family as they have all pitched in to install the cabinetry, sand, paint etc.
In the photo above you can also see the Metrie trim that was installed.
In the photo below (with Gigi, their sweet cat) you can see the Top Knobs hardware that was installed. I just love their new Ash Gray finish and I would describe it as somewhere between pewter and bronze. We opted for a hefty knob and you can see the bar pulls that were installed on the pantry in the opening photo.
All our lighting like this beauty (below) for over the sink has arrived and just waiting to be hung:
This cherry wood shelf needs to be varathaned/oiled and will be installed above the sink. As we didn’t have much space, we opted to go for one thick shelf:
My sister wanted a white subway tile that had a handmade look so we opted for these and will lay them in a brick pattern:
Here’s what is being done this week and early next week:
- The quartz counter is being installed tomorrow as is the Blanco sink.
- The plumber will come back to install the Blanco faucet and the dishwasher.
- The tiler will install the backsplash
- The contractor will install the range hood and the shelf above the sink.
- The electrician will install the pendant over the dining table, the ceiling fixture and the wall sconce above the sink.
- Hang drapery rod and drapes.
- Accessorize and hang art.
Did I mention the photographer will be shooting it one week from this Tuesday? We are all away for four days for my nephew’s wedding in Vancouver this weekend so hopefully the contractor will have things taken care of while we are away. Once I’m back the week after, I will shop for accessories and style – my favourite part.
Stay tuned next week as we are so close to crossing the finish line. Good luck to everyone participating!
