May 27, 2010Hi Vanessa! Thanks for visiting my blog and commenting. What a great book ~ I love these pictures! I have been redoing my wood furniture with paint to update it instead of buying new. I’m also looking to get a Queen headboard for my master bedroom from a thrift store {or similar} that I can paint and make to my liking.

May 27, 2010I get a thrill from finding something special at garage sales, thrift/antique stores, or online sites such as craigslist. I can’t believe some of the treasures I’ve found – wing chair, oil paintings, silver, jadite dishware, baby stroller and toys, world map, books, clawfoot tub….I can go on and on. It is nice to have something you know is not sold in big box stores. It’s even nicer when they’re free!

May 30, 2010This is right up my alley! I write a weekly environment column and using the 3 Rs in all aspects of our life is something I always write about. In my home, one thing I do because I’m a photographer and have an abundance of photos, is to head to the local thrift store for frames. I often paint them to give them a new look. Again, using paint, a great find was some big old tubs and containers, that are now gorgeous planters. One of them holds a bunch of slippers at the front door for guests. I better stop writing now, but obviously I love this topic!

May 31, 2010Quite a few years ago I took an inexpensive, green-coloured, faux-wood clothes armoire from my husband’s bachelor days and repainted it a glossy black. I changed up the oak knobs for squared-off silver ones with a Asian-inspired look. This piece sits in my dining room and holds my extra serving dishes, vases and candles. I have had more compliments about it than any other piece in my home — especially from men. It never seems to go out of style!

June 1, 2010Wow, what a neat giveaway. I came to visit you from FlowerShopGurl and I’m glad I did.
I tend to repurpose furniture over and over again. Spray paint, different fabric, stencils, stippling. My kitchen table is probably an inch taller now then when I bought it from all the treatments I’ve done to it over the years! ha!
Thanks for the chance.

June 1, 2010Hi Vanessa… what a great giveaway!
I love to transform discarded items (junk) into usable and attractive home decor pieces. I find an interesting piece… sit it out and prop it up and think about what I can create with it. Then when an idea comes to mind, I grab some tools and go for it! Pallet to garden bench… tractor steering wheel to curtain hanger…

June 2, 2010Fantastic giveaway. I don’t currently repurpose, but thru the desginer challenge at my site I have realized that I don’t need a new dining room… I just need to tweak it. It seems so silly to totally discard something so beautiful that is only a few years old!

June 3, 2010I don’t think I’ve ever acquired a new piece of furniture in my life. All of my furniture is hand-me-downs or comes from junk/”antique” shops, and much of it needs restoring.

June 3, 2010Country Living publishes the most amazing books & Restore*Recycle*Repurpose looks fantastic and is also our motto. I created a little Studio space in our home using found objects (curb side treasures)and garage sale finds. Every Saturday my daughter and I garage sale and when she purchased her first home (a Condo) last Summer, she furnished/decorated it completely with restored, recycled and repurposed items.

June 4, 2010As a military wife I have recycled and reused most everything around here. My baker’s rack is now a laundry room sorter and cookbook holder. My laminate kitchen cabinets went from plain to Tuscany chic with wood trim, crown molding and glaze. I have painted pink wicker black to add to my sunroom, and hauled in every possible antique from Maine to Memphis. I did keep the same husband however! Sign me up. By the way, I collect tab tops for the Memphis Ronald McDonald House. There’s more aluminum in one tab top than in the whole can – amazing!
