I don’t usually write non-decor posts here at Decor Happy but in honour of the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton this morning, I’m joining Danielle’s wedding blog crawl. Go here to see who else is participating and read their posts.
I married my sweet guy 13 years ago this May at an intimate wedding at McLean House in Toronto. Although I wouldn’t change a thing about our day, I thought it would be fun to create a wedding based on what I’m loving today. Before we start though, here are a few photos of us on our wedding day.
If I was planning my wedding today, I would do things a little differently as tastes change over the years. I would send out invitations like these fun and informal ones from Etsy seller Pinkroses1220. Mine were a bit on the formal side. I would probably add a touch of pink in the lettering as the colour scheme I’m loving lately is blush pink and deep blue/French blue.
This dress from Monique Lhuillier is just gorgeous and has a similar cut to the one I wore but has the added lace detail – simply beautiful.
And I would carry this pretty bouquet with the adorable striped ribbon:
Bridesmaids would wear these pretty dresses from Amsale in blush pink and French blue, in slightly different styles.
The men w0uld wear a tie or bowtie like one of these:
Our wedding ceremony was outdoors but we dined inside. I like the casual vibe of this outdoor wedding via Style me Pretty and there is nothing quite like dining outdoors at night.
I would do something a trifle more dramatic with the centerpieces – perhaps a smaller version of these?
And I would love to have fun photos likes these taken by Toby Hoogs rather than the conservative shots our photographer took.
Would you change anything about your wedding if you were getting married today?
Congrats Will and Kate! May you have many happy years together.

April 29, 2011Ah I loved this post Vanessa! First off, your wedding looked gorgeous and I loved seeing these photos of you. Your venue is one of my favourites. I also love all of your ideas- those striped ties are so charming and I love love the centerpieces. If I had to do mine again, I’d add more colour I think- had mostly white at the time.

April 29, 2011Your wedding photos are beautiful, Vanessa 🙂
We had a pretty cool wedding photographer – he went up in a backhoe to take an aerial shot of everyone at the wedding 🙂 It was such a fun day all the way around, and although there are some things that I would do differently now, I still love everything about our wedding 🙂 The best part of it was sharing the fun with all our friends and family 🙂

April 30, 2011Your wedding was beautiful! I got married almost 20 years ago at the age of 20 {I know, so young} My wedding was DIY type of affair. I designed and sewed my dress {I would make it WAY less puffy and more sleek and elegant this time} My bridesmaids wore navy silk dresses and I would choose a dress like the navy one you have featured! But I don’t think I would want to plan a wedding again, in {hopefully} over 10 years time it will be my daughters’ turns!

April 30, 201113 years ago?…I feel ancient. Your pictures and venue are lovely.
I would so do things differently at my wedding which was 30 years ago. Have to remind myself of this while helping my daughter plan HER wedding for next February…my opinions, unless asked for, are kept to myself.
I loved, loved, loved The Royal Wedding this morning.

April 30, 2011This is such a beautiful and personal post Vanessa, you were a gorgeous bride and your photos are so lovely!! I got married 4 years ago so still haven’t thought much about what I would change but I am sure that we all wish to change some things as the years go by! I can already start to imagine some of the new dress styles I would have liked to have!!
