Aloha,
We have been back from Hawaii (Oahu and Maui) for almost two weeks now and let me tell you, it’s so hard coming back to reality. The primary purpose of going was to attend a friend’s wedding in Oahu and since I have never been there or to Maui, I thought this would be the perfect summer vacation for my fifteen year old daughter and I. We have been through a lot in the past year and a half so it was really nice to be in beautiful, idyllic surroundings and spend quality time together.
The first hotel we stayed at during our two week vacation was The Modern Honolulu. I had stalked their Instagram feed, read their reviews and thought that it would be perfect for the first three days of our vacation. You can’t beat the location a stone’s throw away from the beginning of the famous Waikiki beach, as well as restaurants and shopping.
The Lobby:
When you first enter the hotel, there is a surfboard art installation to greet you, but more importantly the front desk staff were friendly and attentive. All guests are offered the most delicious fresh lemonade drink and a cold towel. It’s these details that make the Modern Honolulu stand out from other hotels.
The bookcase revolves to reveal The Study lounge which offers a happy hour and live music several nights during the week.
Our Room(s):
We had a suite which I highly recommend if someone in your party likes to stay up late (me) or sleep in (my daughter.) The living room was a beautiful space to retreat to. I loved the beachy vibe and my daughter repeatedly stated that the suite is exactly how she wants her first apartment to look. White + wood is always a winning combination.
We left the Modern Honolulu to stay at a hotel closer to the wedding. We then came back to the Modern Honolulu for our last night in Oahu as my daughter attended a concert with her friend in Honolulu. This time we had a room with two double beds to accommodate my daughter’s friend. And speaking of beds, I was so happy to be back at the Modern Honolulu because the other hotel (which shall remain nameless) had the softest bed which caused discomfort and pain in my lower back. Thank goodness for pain meds or I wouldn’t have been able to walk, it was that bad! I didn’t have this problem at the Modern Honolulu or the other hotels we stayed at. A comfortable bed and a quiet room are the two most important features for me with any hotel stay and the Modern Honolulu delivered.
Restaurants:
We were tired and jet lagged our first night in Oahu so we ordered room service. This is my daughter’s favourite thing to do. If it were up to her, we would have eaten all three meals in our room. 🙂 We were thankful that the Modern Honolulu offers 24 hour room service.
The Modern Honolulu is known for its fine dining restaurant, Ravish but we ate quite frequently at the more relaxed poolside restaurant, The Grove. I loved their fresh smoothies for breakfast while my daughter couldn’t get enough of the banana macadamia pancakes. And sitting al fresco amongst the bougainvillea can’t be beat.
The Pool and Common Areas:
The adult only Sunset pool where I retreated to while Maya was with her friend:
I truly believe that everyone should visit Hawaii at least once in their lifetime. It truly is heaven on earth. And I feel blessed and grateful that I had an opportunity to visit. Thank you Modern Honolulu for making our stay in Oahu comfortable, enjoyable and also instagram-worthy!

Mahalo,
(I received a media rate to stay at the Modern Honolulu but all opinions are my own. PS I would have stayed here even if I hadn’t received the media rate. 🙂 )
What do you think?
