Happy Monday! Did you get hit hard with snow this weekend? We sure did and all our plans were cancelled except for my Friday night annual holiday get-together at my house with my besties from university. I have known these girls for decades (yes, decades) and I love them to death. Anyway, hope you enjoyed a relaxing weekend at home if you were snowed in as well.
Today, I’m sharing a kitchen reno that I designed from start to finish. Everything from floor plans and elevations to placing the last finishing touch.
As you can see it was a tiny u-shaped eat-in kitchen and we transformed it into a galley style kitchen with a large island for prep and eating.
The client didn’t want the sink in the island or to the right of the range as the “mess” would be visible from the family room. It was her idea to place the sink out of sight in the corner and she says the size is perfect for her needs.
My client fell in love with the pale aqua glass moroccan-esque backsplash tile. It’s a nice contrast to all the white.
I will be back with some more details and sources. I have to run to another client. (I always say I will take the week before Christmas off and here I am meeting with a client every day this week. Help!)

July 31, 2017Hello Ms Francis
I see you did this kitchen some time ago. It is lovely. Could I trouble you for the dimensions of the island? It is exactly what I’ve pictured for my own kitchen; a long, narrow island with a work space on one end and seating on the other end (in lieu of a table/chairs). I was hesitant on the long narrow idea until I saw this! I’m thinking of 33″x108″

August 25, 2017Hi,
I am also considering a long narrow island. 33″ wide also. I was curious as to how wide this island is.
Thanks!
Kelly
Emilie
September 2, 2017I’m interested in this information as well!

September 3, 2017Ladies – Katie, Bridget, Kelly and Emilie:
Yes, this is an old post and I don’t usually go back and answer questions. 🙂
The island is 30″ x 96″ and it was custom built by my cabinetmaker.
Good luck with your renos. Remember, that it’s worthwhile to invest in the expertise of a designer during the process so that you get valuable information relevant to your space and don’t have any regrets after. 🙂
