Hello and welcome to week four of the One Room Challenge. What is this challenge you ask? In a nutshell, bloggers/designers transform a space in their home or a client’s home in six short weeks, thanks to Linda of Calling it Home. Everything is documented in weekly blog posts and you can catch up on mine here:
Although I’m one of the 20 bloggers participating, over 150 other talented bloggers have signed on to “link up” each week. I have a few favourites and can’t wait to see their reveal just two weeks from today.
I’m working on my tween daughter’s builder basic bathroom to give it more personality and style. The demo of the bathroom finally began yesterday as my tiler wasn’t available until then. First it looked like this:
And then a few hours later, this:
The vanity and toilet were removed. I am painting the existing vanity a glossy black and replacing the toilet with a more water efficient, self cleaning one, exclusive to the Home Depot. Yes, you heard that right! Apparently the flushing system cleans two times better than conventional toilets. I’m in for anything that makes cleaning easier!
Another criteria I had was that the front of the tank had to be flat and not curved (I know, I’m strange!) and the tank top had to be straight, so I could style it pretty like this:
And here’s the pretty tile that will be installed today. It does look more white, less grey and green than the sample (shown last week) but that’s to be expected with stone – you never know exactly what you will get! I do love it though.
And I think I need to address storage as this space under the sink can be better utilized. (These poor, naked dolls have been lying here since my daughter used to play with them up until she was 10 (she is now almost 13.) She used to love cutting their hair and applying makeup. )
I’m going to ask my carpenter if he can install a pull out like in my ensuite below (although now the cabinets have been painted a lovely grey.)
I had a bit of a panic attack when my wallpaper arrived. They are 9 yd double rolls which look very skimpy when compared with the more traditional 11 yd double roll – it looked like half the size. My wallpaper hanger stopped in to assure me that there will be plenty and I won’t be short, especially since the vanity and the window are on that wall. Phew! The wallpaper is a big part of the design.
What else, what else? Oh yes, I decided on these”champagne” finish knobs. I think they will look great on the black vanity. Just not sure how the finish compares with the gold finish on my stunning sconces from School House Electric ( see above.) So, I may do a glass knob.
That’s it for now. A lot will be happening this week and next now that the tiles will be installed today and since my photographer will be here in a week and a half! Fingers crossed for me, OK?
