{Update: My Comments haven’t been working but I think I fixed it as of Friday the 10th. I apologize to all of you who tried to leave a comment and appreciate you so much.}
Hello friends,
{If you are new here, I’m an Interior Decorator in Milton, ON just west of Toronto. Thanks for stopping by!}
I have made it through to the end of another One Room Challenge – my tenth one in a row! And I’m so excited to share the photos with you. If you have been following along, you will know that I renovated my tiny laundry room and upper hallway. If you want to catch up on any posts you have missed or find details about some of the products/brands used, you can click on these links:
Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3 | Week 4 | Week 5
Here is how the space looked about three weeks ago – my contractor started on April 15th. You can see why I didn’t like doing laundry and kept this door closed at all times. In fact, whenever my daughter had friends over it was always me yelling upstairs “Make sure you keep the laundry room door closed.” What an eyesore. The laundry room is in between her bedroom and her bathroom.
And here’s how it looks now. I cannot get over the transformation, if I do say so myself. ☺️ And photos don’t really do the space justice. I think I say that every time but it’s true. It’s a small space but there are so many interesting details like the shiplap, the concrete sink, the faucet etc. I guess you could say it has that Modern Farmhouse vibe.
I debated about what colour to paint the shiplap until the 11th hour and I’m happy with my choice. It’s a dull, greyed down pink – Benjamin Moore 2095-60 Southern Comfort. I tried out more of a blush pink and it looked too washed out and nurseryish. The shiplap is this one from Metrie’s Option M Modern Farmhouse collection installed vertically. We added flat stock to the top to finish it off. The baseboard is this one and the casing is this one – both from Metrie. And this is the Logan door which I have throughout the house.
We had to build out the wall for the plumbing as it is an exterior wall. But this resulted in a nice display area for soap and pretty things like the flowers from Fiori Oakville. (I painted the portrait but I need to spend more time on her I think. I tried to make her look vintage. ?)
Close up of the gorgeous Farmhouse 2418 sink (I think a sink can be gorgeous, right?) from Native Trails. I love the vintage vibe and envisioned it on a wood stand which my contractor built from an old red oak tree. The sink is made from their NativeStone product which is lighter than concrete and is stain, scratch and crack resistant. Each sink is handcrafted by artisans and no two pieces are alike. Love that! There are natural markings and inconsistencies that give it texture and a varied look. The Kohler faucet is from Wayfair Canada and I love the brass finish and cross handles.
I think it will be a good spot to bathe Ellie. She didn’t seem to mind sitting in the sink.
It was really difficult to photograph the narrow space but here you can see the Ikea cabinetry paired with the black penny round backsplash. The doors are Ikea’s new Axstad matte white doors (40″ tall) and the counter is this one from Ikea.
Top Knobs is a brand I love, especially their matte black hardware. I used their Bergen knob on the laundry room cabinetry. Rather than doing three cabinets above the appliances which was my original intention, I opted to install shelves (made from the leftover counter material) and had them painted white. A little display of objets is always a good thing. The succulent in the pink pot is from Fiori and the two others beside it are faux and from HomeSense. The art work is from Minted and I already had it,
Close up of the Electrolux appliances, which by the way are on sale until June 26, 2019. I have the EFLS627UIW washer and the EFMC627UIW and am so in love with them. I actually did laundry today for the first time in weeks and the clothes came out smelling fresh and clean, which wasn’t the case when using my old washer. Oh, and the hinges are on the proper side! So, no more going around the washer door to put clothes in the dryer. It’s the little things, right?
I just love the bust with the greenery from Fiori Oakville. When I saw her in their beautiful store, I knew I had to have her. A little bit of whimsy in a space is always a good idea.
Just casually posing in my new and improved laundry room. So.in.love.with.it.
I have a very tiny linen closet and this niche was just calling for built in cabinetry. We all know how expensive that can be, right? So, I was excited when Ikea Canada agreed to partner with me on the cabinetry and the wood counter. Here is a before photo. I had the white painted pine cabinet for almost 25 years and it was time for it to go. The beautiful Schumacher wallpaper was installed when I renovated my ensuite – we had just enough left over to wallpaper the niche.
And here is how it looks now. Much more pleasing to the eye and I love the Ikea cabinets and drawers. This is the same cabinetry in the laundry room but with a different counter which is this one.
My favourite Top Knobs hardware (Essex knob and Channing Cup Pull) looks great on the matte white doors.
The greenery is real from Fiori Oakville while the lavender is faux and from HomeSense.
I love seeing this view up the stairs from the front entry. So pretty! Oh hey, Ellie.

Thank you to my very generous and supportive brand/retail partners who I ❤️ to bits. Being a guest participant, you are on your own to find brands to partner with. (As one of the featured designers you have access to many brand partners.) So, I always feel so grateful and humble when a brand agrees to partner with little, ole me. Most of the brands got back to me within a day or so as they knew about the tight timeline. So appreciated! This project wouldn’t have had this outcome if it weren’t for these brands. So, thank you, thank you, thank you.
Goemans: Electrolux washer and dryer
Ikea Canada: Cabinetry and counters
Native Trails: Farmhouse 2418 Sink in Ash
Wayfair Canada: Kohler faucet
Metrie: Shiplap, flat stock, baseboards, casing, Logan interior door – all linked to above
Top Knobs: Hardware linked to above
Fiori Oakville: Greenery and face vase, flowers, succulent in pot in laundry room; greenery in hallway
Special shout out to Metrie, Top Knobs and Fiori Oakville who have partnered with me from Day 1 and continue to do so wholeheartedly, no questions asked. I appreciate their ongoing support and kindness so much.
Thank you to Linda who created this concept. Because of her, I have five beautiful spaces in this home (and the rest in my former home.) And if it wasn’t for the deadline, I’m pretty sure I would still be deciding blue, green or pink for the shiplap? My Week 1 post has links to all my former ORC’s, so feel free to browse those.

May 11, 2019Wow!! Honestly I often think to myself “Is it really worth it to do a lot to my laundry room?” It’s barely more than a double wide closet in the upstairs hall but your laundry room has convinced me that it is a brilliant idea! I love everything you did and especially the sink and paneling color!! This is truly the first laundry room reno that I’ve seen that I have loved completely – and you know there are a ton of them out there!! Enjoy!!
PS – 10 ORC in a row!!? Well done!! This was my eighth and the second time I have had to abandon the ORC ship so to speak!! Impressive.

We are remodeling our kitchen with Axstad white cabinets. I can’t decide which white paint color to pair with it for the walls… what paint color did you use on your shelves and on the walls adjacent to the Axstad cabinets?
