One Room Challenge Week 4 - Fall 2019: Refreshed Living/Dining/Entry

Welcome to Week 4 of the One Room Challenge! I’m decorating my living room, dining room and entry which are all connected. They are the first spaces you see when you enter my home and really needed an update. If you missed a post, you can catch up here:

This past week, my beautiful Dash and Albert rug from Annie Selke arrived. Ellie couldn’t wait to try it out and I can’t wait to have it situated properly in my living room. It looks just like the image on the website (with shades of blue, black and cream) and looks and feels like wool even though it is a durable indoor/outdoor rug. The soft, wool like texture is deceivingly durable and its washable and scrubbable. We love Ellie but she sometimes doesn’t let you wipe her feet completely when she tracks mud in and sometimes “accidents” happen. I have had a real wool rug in my living room but unfortunately it was ruined so now I will only have indoor/outdoor rugs as they are so easy to clean and stand up to a lot of traffic and everyday living.

And my beautiful draperies in a JF Fabric were installed. They really finish off the room even though I already have shutters. This is the Before:

And the After. Layered, luxurious and hides the sharp line between the black and white walls. I just love the linen look of the drapes and the colour which is a grey/oatmeal.

Want to see another Before and After? As I mentioned in last week’s post, I have had this dining table for about 15 years but it has seen better days. (This photo was taken after I had sanded a few trouble areas including where spilled paint from when my daughter was younger had penetrated right through to the bare wood.) But the table still is in good shape so I decided to paint it with Fusion Mineral Paint which my sister had used before and I had heard of for awhile. It’s easy to apply, has zero VOC is self levelling and has a built in top coat.

So, I stopped in at my local dealer, Decorative Dreams to take a look at all the colours and pick up supplies.

I ended up going with a colour called Goddess Ashwagandha from the Lisa Marie Holmes collection. I just love this colour – a white with a lot of grey/putty in it I would say. This photo was taken at night and I will update with a better photo so you can really see this beautiful colour. My sister and I prepped and painted it together and it didn’t take long at all. We applied two coats and waited a couple of hours between each and also sanded between each. Much better, right? For very little $ and a half day of work, I have a brand new table.

That’s it for the past week. This is the final week to get things done so a lot is happening – art wall being installed, dining light being installed and my sofa delivered. I have to pick up my console table which I had custom made in the end. I was going to try and build it myself as I have done woodworking in the past but there really was no time and I don’t have all of the woodworking tools that I need. So, all I need to do after I pick it up is stain it. I have had a few mishaps along the way (eg. the wrong mirror size was ordered for the entry) but it’s coming together and I should be good to go when the photographer arrives on the 5th.
