First off, if you are new here, welcome! I’m an Interior Decorator living in Milton, ON (Canada) sharing my work and inspiration on the blog (when I can \ud83d\ude42 )<\/p>\n

This is week two of the One Room Challenge, where 20 designers\/bloggers transform a space in six weeks. The reveal post will be up in exactly four weeks from today – yikes! A lot needs to transpire in those four weeks.<\/p>\n

But first, the ugly.\u00a0 To date, the room was emptied except for the dresser as it was too heavy to move.<\/p>\n

The ceiling has been scraped – no more ugly popcorn ceiling! I hired someone to do this but you can definitely do this yourself although it is a messy job. I was getting rid of the broadloom so he didn’t have to protect it from the falling stipple. Because our house is only 10 years old and the ceiling was never painted, the stipple ceiling came off really easy in about an hour. He just sprayed it with water from a large container and then scraped it off with a putty knife. He came by the next day for another hour to apply the drywall compound over any seams. And then came back a third day for less than half an hour to add some more drywall compound. On the fourth day, he sanded for less than a half hour.\u00a0 So, less than 4 hours work to have this done.<\/p>\n

The ceiling hasn’t been painted yet but I’m hoping it will be smooth like a baby’s bottom with no seams or anything showing once painted.\u00a0 It does make a big difference to a space, so if you are renovating a room and it is going to be empty anyway, I encourage you to look at doing this. You will be happy you did.<\/p>\n

And the hardwood flooring has been installed and I love it. That alone has changed the space drastically and was a huge part of the budget but so worth it. It’s the same flooring I had installed in my daughter’s bedroom<\/a>.\u00a0 (The floor is covered in drop cloths so I can’t show it quite yet.)<\/p>\n

I also cleared out the closet, donating bags and bags of clothing, sold the old closet system, patched up the millions of holes that were left and now I am waiting for my new closet to be installed next week.\u00a0 So looking forward to that!<\/p>\n
