Hello friends,<\/p>\n

Welcome back to week five of the One Room Challenge, where 20 designers\/bloggers are in the final stages of transforming a space in six short weeks. I’m working on my neglected principal bedroom and hoping that a comfortable and stylish space results – within the next week! Thank you Linda<\/a> for coming up with this concept because I’m sure my bedroom would still be in its sad original state.\u00a0 I am especially excited to see this room come together!<\/p>\n

Unlike my last post, I will (try and) keep this post short.\u00a0 (No one really has a lot of time to read blogs these days anyway, right?) The painting of the room finally wrapped up yesterday.\u00a0\u00a0 Now I can give the room a good cleaning (drywall dust is everywhere from when the ceiling was scraped) and start to bring everything in, starting with the rug I showed you last week.<\/p>\n

  1. \u00a0Area rug:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The area rug is actually broadloom from Karastan<\/a> cut to size and serged for a nice finish.\u00a0 There were so many options to choose from but I am personally drawn to area rugs without pattern (unless it is an antique Persian for example) so that I don’t tire of it and it is easy to work with in the room. When I saw Woolcraft Nouveau<\/a>, an all loop broadloom with a mixture of large and small loops to create a hand crafted boucle knotted texture, that was it.\u00a0 It looks like a chunky knit sweater or scarf and I love this light grey colour, one of six\u00a0 colours. It is made of 100% New Zealand wool – so soft on the feet.<\/p>\n

    The folks at Karastan wanted me to let you know that National Karastan Month is taking place from now through November 9th and features the lowest prices of the season (and no interest until January 2018) on their luxurious carpets.     I shared this photo on Instagram last week. I have always been a fan of the Arteriors Home Wheaton White Crackle Porcelain lamp<\/a> so when I spotted it on sponsor Bellacor’s site, I knew I was meant to have it.\u00a0 Right now it is sitting on my media console but she will take pride of place on my dresser very shortly.\u00a0 I love the crackle finish on the porcelain base, the off white colour of the base and shade and the grand scale.\u00a0 Because of it’s shape, it can fit into any interior – modern or traditional. I have to admit that I had never heard of Bellacor<\/a> before but was impressed with their wide range of products and lighting.<\/p>\n

    Ceiling fixtures:<\/p>\n

    As I showed you last week, the ceiling fixtures from Crystorama<\/a> were installed. I had been admiring the Broche One Light Gold Flushmount<\/a> for awhile. I love the gold colour and the design of it paired with an exposed bulb. One is in the entry to the bedroom and on is in the closet. This was an easy decision but when it came to the main ceiling fixture in the center of the room I was a bit stumped. There is a larger version of this fixture but I thought that would be too much of a good thing. I knew I didn’t want anything too ornate as in a crystal chandelier and it couldn’t hang too low as I only have 8′ ceilings so the Lawson<\/a> won out in the end. I love the brass and lucite arms and you can’t go wrong with a drum shade – simple and classic.<\/p>\n

    3) Closet door:<\/p>\n

    The glass closet door from Metrie<\/a>‘s Pretty Simple collection (same collection as the moulding) was installed and I love it. (excuse the terrible photo with my reflection etc!) A crystal knob will be installed this week.\u00a0 I love antique mirror so the original plan was to install it on a slab door with the same panel moulding trim framing it. In the end, I thought that would be too much mirror on the same wall as the dresser with the oversize mirror<\/a> from Bassett is right beside it.<\/p>\n

    I painted the door Farrow and Ball’s Plummett<\/a> – the most beautiful grey.<\/p>\n

    4) Fabric choices:<\/p>\n

    I instagrammed this image but don’t think I shared it during the weekly updates as I have wavered on the floral fabric <\/a>which would be pillows for the bed. I love it so but then I changed the headboard fabric to something a bit more lavender grey and thought it may not work as well.<\/p>\n

    So I thought that this floral fabric<\/a> which I have coveted since it came out, would work better and it has some pinks in it which would tie into the chair. I will probably shoot the bed with both pillows as at this moment, I am still undecided! All fabrics are from sponsor DecoratorsBest<\/a> which has a wide and varied selection of fabric and wallpaper.<\/p>\n

    And here’s what still needs to get done in the next 5 days (my photographer comes on Monday):<\/p>\n

    3. disassemble closet and sell it<\/del><\/li>\n
    4. scrape popcorn ceiling<\/del><\/li>\n
    5. install hardwood<\/del><\/li>\n
    6. paint closet walls, ceiling and trim<\/del><\/li>\n
    7. install closet<\/del><\/li>\n
    8. install panel moulding, chair rail and crown<\/del><\/li>\n
    9. paint room (ceiling, walls, trim)<\/del><\/li>\n
    10. electrical: hang 3 ceiling fixtures and upgrade switches
      \n<\/del><\/li>\n
    11. order closet door hardware<\/del><\/li>\n
    12. pick up headboard<\/li>\n
    13. pick up ottoman<\/li>\n
    14. install rods and hang and steam drapes<\/li>\n
    15. hang art, mat some frames<\/li>\n
    16. hang mirror<\/li>\n
    17. install door knob on closet<\/li>\n
    18. change hardware on dresser<\/li>\n
    19. source bedding<\/del><\/li>\n
    20. source accessories

    21. pick up flowers from my favourite shop<\/a><\/li>\n
    22. style it pretty!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
